বিসিএস প্রিলিমিনারি ও সকল সরকারি চাকরির পরীক্ষার জন্য Subject-Verb Agreement Rules একটি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয়। এই পূর্ণাঙ্গ স্টাডি গাইডে Subject-Verb Agreement Rules-এর প্রয়োজনীয় নিয়মাবলী, আলোচনা ও বিগত সালের পরীক্ষার প্রশ্ন সমাধান নিচে বিস্তারিত দেওয়া হলো।

Rule 1: ‘As well as’, ‘with’, ‘along with’, ‘together with’, ‘in addition to’, ‘accompanied by’
যুক্ত থাকলে প্রথম Subject অনুযায়ী Verb বসে।
- Example: The teacher, along with his students, was (not were) present.
- Example: Mr. Rahim as well as his brothers is coming today.
Rule 2: ‘Either… or’, ‘Neither… nor’, ‘Not only… but also’
যুক্ত থাকলে Verb-এর সবচেয়ে কাছের (নিকটবর্তী) Subject অনুযায়ী Verb বসে।
- Example: Neither he nor his friends are guilty.
- Example: Either you or he is mistaken.
Rule 3: ‘One of the’ এর পর Plural Noun কিন্তু Singular Verb
- Example: One of the boys is absent today.
- Example: One of my best friends lives in London.
- ⚠️ ব্যতিক্রম: One of the + Plural Noun + Who/Which/That থাকলে Plural Verb বসে। (e.g. He is one of the men who have done this).
Rule 4: অনির্দিষ্ট পরিমাণ, সময়, দূরত্ব ও অর্থ (Singular)
- Example: Fifty miles is a long distance.
- Example: Ten thousand dollars is a lot of money.
- Example: Two hours is enough time to complete the test.
Rule 5: ‘Each’, ‘Every’, ‘Everyone’, ‘Somebody’, ‘Nobody’, ‘Anybody’
এগুলো সবসময় Singular Verb গ্রহণ করে।
- Example: Everyone wants to be happy.
- Example: Each of the students has a pen.
💡 বিসিএস স্পেশাল শর্টকাট:
– ‘The number of’ থাকলে Verb হবে Singular (e.g. The number of students is increasing).
– ‘A number of’ থাকলে Verb হবে Plural (e.g. A number of students are present).
